Course Description: The history, techniques, practice of skills, and rules of
tennis will be covered.
Course Prerequisites: None
Course Objectives:
1. To provide a basic knowledge of rules through application in game situations to
include both singles and doubles.
2. To provide an opportunity for physical fitness through life long participation.
3. To improve and develop tennis play by performing specific skill objectives to include
serve, forehand, backhand, volley and lob.
Criteria for Evaluation:
1. Skills - completion of objectives 25%
2. Skills Test 25%
3. Written Tennis Test 25%
4. Written Scoring Test 15%
5. Tournament Review 10%

COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND ATTENDANCE POLICY:
1. In class activities will include explanation and demonstration of skills and strategy
required to play tennis followed by student participation in practice, competition
and skill testing. Students will work on objectives on an individual basis with
classmates.
2. All students are allowed two unexcused absences except during evaluation periods.
Roll will be called daily.
3. Every missed class in excess of two will result in two points being deducted from
your final grade average. Class will begin and end in a timely manner. You are expected to be prepared when class begins. Three tardies equals one absence on point deductions. If you are more than ten minutes late it will count as two tardies.

4. You will be responsible for any work missed when you do not attend class.
5. Since this is a participation class , students will be expected to report to class prepared to participate with appropriate clothing, tennis racket, and tennis shoes.
6. Make up exams for skill and knowledge tests will only be given in extenuating circumstances. Excused absences must be pre-approved by Ms. Wilson or approved by the Dean’s office.
